These Bak Hu (Pork Floss) Rolls are easy to prepare using the air fryer for a light and tasty appetizer or snack without the grease.
Bak Hu (Pork Floss) is time consuming to prepare. The process is not complicated but it requires patience to turn a chunk of pork into light, flossy strands of deliciousness. That said, it is totally worth the effort because a little pork floss goes a long way. It can be used as a topping for many dishes like congee, noodles, and stir fries. It is also delicious eaten with bread and croissants.
What is Bak Hu (Pork Floss)?
Bak Hu literally means meat floss. It can be made using pork, chicken, and even fish but the most common is pork floss. It takes at least 2½ hours to boil, shred, and stir fry the meat to make it into flossy strands. What you see sold in plastic containers at the Asian grocery stores are usually very light in color. I grew up with a golden colored Bak Hu and here is how you make this richer colored Bak Hu (Pork Floss).
Guilt Free Air Fried Rolls
As I have mentioned above, Bak Hu is often used as a topping but you can also use it as an ingredient in many delightful dishes. A popular finger food using this ingredient is Bak Hu (Pork Floss) Rolls. Often times, people use wonton wrappers to make mini rolls which they then deep fry into crispy little bites.
Today, I am going to show you how to make a guilt free, air fried alternative using white bread coated with sesame seeds. These rolls are really easy to make and air frying prevents the bread from soaking up unnecessary amounts of oil. When air fried, they are light, almost grease free, and very crispy, all good qualities for a wonderful finger food.
They also look great on my Lunar New Year Charcuterie Board. Do check out that huge tray of goodies, perfect for your CNY Reunion Dinner.
